ABOUT PASTOR CHRIS

Pastor Chris Simpson was a Bible Teacher, Pastor, and Speaker who was born in Louisiana in 1952. He was the second of four brothers. He was the original pastor of New Wine Christian Fellowship. The church began meeting in a home south of downtown Houston in 1988, and rented space from other churches from 1990 through 1997. The church moved to Pasadena, TX where a permanent location was established in 1998. Pastor Chris lived and ministered from that base until he was called home to Heaven in 2009.

Pastor Chris would tell us how when he was 11 years old that Jesus told him that he would follow Him when he was older. At the age of 19, he finally met Jesus. It was the summer of 1971, just after his freshman year in college. As he would often relate it, he was "hanging out at the gas station, sitting on a stack of used tires, smoking a Marlboro cigarette," when an hippie ex-drug-addict turned Jesus-freak approached him and confronted him about the state of his soul for eternity. That fellow offered Jesus Christ to Chris as his Savior and way of escape from the wrath of God. Chris received salvation through Jesus that moment and then went to a revival meeting that night where he ran to the front of the church during altar call to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Chris spent his first years in the Lord under the tutelage of Bible teacher and disciple maker Doug Westmoreland at a bible and leadership training ministry called The One Way Inn in Beaumont, TX. After three years there, the Lord arranged through circumstances for Chris to move to Houston , Texas. There, he became a part of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer during the years when that church experienced a powerful anointing of the Lord on a par equal to the Brownsville Revival of the 1990's. It was at Church of the Redeemer that Pastor Chris learned what he refers to as "how to be real" and the value of experiencing the love and mercy of Christ in the context of one's Christian family.

In the mid 1980's, he spent two years at the Vineyard Church in the City in Houston, Texas under Pastor Bert Waggoner, who is now the national leader of the Vineyard Churches U.S.A. In 1986, Pastor Bert and Apostle Norman Parish of Continental Missionary Crusade recognized and affirmed the calling on Chris' life to pastor. In January of 1987, Chris and twenty-nine of his friends were blessed and sent out to found a new church called Eastwood Fellowship, which later became New Wine Christian Fellowship.

Pastor Chris taught the Bible and had an active ministry of deliverance and healing prayer in the Houston starting in 1982. He both led and and served as a featured speaker at Deliverance ministry conferences in the USA, Central and South America, Cuba, and India. He still appears via video recordings several times a week on a local Houston area TV program called "New Wine Ministries." His constant involvement in ministering to hurting and needy people gave Chris a unique perspective on understanding the Bible as it relates to serving others for Jesus.

In his writings, teaching ministry, and seminar appearances, he explained the fundamentals of Christian ministry in an easy-to-understand manner. His ministry has been used of God to teach thousands of Christians the way to apply the principles in the Bible so that they may walk in victory over sin, death, and the devil. His goal was simple: to see more and more people set free from captivity so that they, too, could grow in effective ministry of the Grace and Power of Jesus Christ to others.

In mid-2008, Chris was diagnosed with cancer. God gave him strength to continue functioning full time as a pastor and conference speaker until almost the end of the year. In late December 2008, he had a minor surgical procedure that revealed that the cancer had advanced rapidly into several parts of his body. He chose not to undergo chemotherapy because, as he put it, "the Lord was not in it." God chose to heal Chris by taking him home to be with Him on April 2, 2009. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by family and friends in his home, where at 7:00 pm that evening, he peacefully fell asleep and woke up in heaven.

Chris' contributions for the Kingdom included:

  • a worldwide ministry of live in-person teaching,
  • over 1600 audio and visual recordings,
  • publications that continue to instruct the body of Christ on the role of deliverance as a pastoral tool to set people free from the destructive work of sin and the devil,
  • and thousands of people to whom he ministered over the years as a either a deliverance minister, counselor, advisor, or pastor.

He raised up several Bible teachers, disciple makers, deliverance prayer warriors, and worship leaders who assisted him in helping Christians to grow into effective ministers of the Gospel through active ministry and outreach. Their continued work for the kingdom of Jesus will be his ongoing legacy.
